Carbonzero Opens Community Micro Grant for 2024 Applications

July 11, 2024

Overview

Carbonzero is excited to announce that the application window for the Carbonzero Community Micro Grant (CCMG) program has been opened for 2024. The CCMG program, established in 2022, releases funds once per year up to $5,000, with the goal of funding community-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction projects that require additional capital to achieve their intended results.

Now in its third year, Carbonzero’s Micro Grant allows our team to support Canadian communities by providing financial assistance to eligible organizations that have ambitious and feasible GHG emissions reduction projects that not only reduce GHG emissions but introduce social benefits into communities as well.

In 2023, the CCMG program proudly partnered with the Biosphere Institute of the Bow Valley to expand its Event Waste Management Strategy. The grant funding has been used to implement waste diversion initiatives at events in the Bow Valley, allowing for waste emissions reductions of 67% and 81% compared to a landfill-only waste scenario at the Alberta World Cup and the BMW IBU Biathlon, respectively.

What Projects are Eligible?
The Micro Grant supports projects that build community around sustainability and achieve positive outcomes beyond just GHG emissions reductions.

Examples of Eligible Projects:

·   An organization may be considering the purchase of an electric vehicle to fulfill the meal deliveries with its local food bank delivery program, where the funding is used to install an EV charger at the organization’s facility.
·   An organization considers the implementation of a facility-wide composting program to divert food waste from landfill in effort to reduce methane emissions, where funding is used to implement an on-site vermicomposting system.

Please note that only registered charities and incorporated not for profit organizations are eligible to receive the grant.
